JAMen Forum on Happy Marriage Features Great Ideas and Lively Q&A
More than 120 Jewish men attended the outstanding October JAMen Dinner and Speakers Forum at the JCC to learn “The Secrets of Happily Married Men” from author and psychiatrist Scott Haltzman of Providence, Rhode Island.
Enjoying an Italian-themed dinner catered by Chef John Sutton, including John’s favorite pasta bar and tiramisu dessert, the Forum attracted new members, first time attendees and guests as well as annual and sustaining members.
Halzman, author of best-selling books on marriage, relationships and infidelity, highlighted the importance of active listening and verbally validating the specific concerns voiced by a spouse or partner, before attempting to resolve a conflict. He also emphasized the importance of couples understanding and fulfilling the unique qualities each other values. The evening featured role-playing and a lively Q&A. Attendees shared a great learning experience.
Headlining the next JAMen event on Wednesday, November 15 is the great Ray Benson, the Jewish front man of the legendary swing band Asleep at the Wheel. Author of the book “Comin’ Right at Ya,” Benson will share his deep connection to Austin and his unique and colorful journey from a Jewish Yankee Hippie to the heights of the country music world. And the themed menu from Chef John can only be described as “Cracker Barrel Country Kosher.”
Co-chaired by Burt Kunik and Jay Rubin and now in its third season, JAMen is open to all Jewish men in the Greater Austin area. ■
