Shalom Austin Names New Board and Honors Community Leaders

The JCC Community Hall filled with more than 100 people on the evening of October 17 for Shalom Austin’s 2017 Annual Meeting.

The evening’s agenda included a compelling and inspiring keynote presentation from Jonathan Lev, Boulder JCC Executive Director, on “JCC 3.0: The Making of a Boulder - Boulder JCC,” a successful capital campaign to build the Jewish Community Center which opened in 2016.

Barak Epstein, outgoing Shalom Austin Treasurer, gave the financial report and highlighted business trends for the future.

Dan Kraus, Shalom Austin Board Chair, highlighted major events and achievements of the board, staff and community, thanked outgoing board members, welcomed incoming board members and announced the 2017 outstanding award recipients.   

Julie Waltzer, Women’s Philanthropy Chair, received the Hymie and Louise Samuelson Young Leadership Award.

The Visual Arts League, coordinated by Susan Sternberg, received the Community Service Award. VAL members include Barbara Waisman (Chair), Georgia Levin (Immediate Past Chair), Ashley Mayel, Shelley Jaffe, Martha Kull, Laraine Lasdon, Ken Nordhauser, Joanne Pelc, Harriet Saikin, Robin Schaeffer, Gail Sneden and Marion Werner.

Jen Reed, Director of Athletics, received the Staff Exemplar of Excellence Award. ■
