Young Guitarist Celebrates Jewish Music on International Radio Show
Aytahn Benavi, son of Irit and Hillel Benavi of Austin, is a 15 year old Austin guitar student who has garnered numerous awards for his playing. He recently appeared on the NPR radio show "From the Top," which features the most outstanding young musicians in the nation.
The show, which was recorded in May at the Atlanta Holocaust Museum and aired in September, featured music of Jewish composers. Aytahn performed a work by Roland Dyens, a French guitarist and composer who died last year.
Aytahn recently won first place at the Indiana International Guitar Festival High School Competition and the Texas A&M High School competition, and was awarded second place in the 2016 Guitar Foundation of America Junior Competition. He was also part of Austin Bella Corda Guitar Ensemble, which recently won the GFA’s 2017 International Youth Ensemble competition.
Aytahn began his studies when he was 5 years old in the Childbloom Guitar Program. He is currently a student of Kevin Taylor. Aytahn will be the 10th performer on "From the Top" that has come out of the Childbloom Guitar Program.
Taylor said, “Aytahn is the most dedicated and hardworking student I have ever had the good fortune to instruct. His musicianship has grown into true artistry and I am convinced he can have a profound impact on the musical world of the future.” ■
