CAA Continues Intermarriage Speaker Series

Congregation Agudas Achim’s fall and winter speaker series begins 2018 with Rabbi Rebecca Sirbu of New York, who will visit Austin Sunday, Jan. 14, as the featured speaker for a program on the ways Judaism is responding to increasing intermarriage.

Sirbu is director of Rabbis Without Borders – not affiliated with Doctors Without Borders – at the National Jewish Center for Learning and Leadership. The group’s website notes its focus is on “pushing the borders of what it means to be a rabbi today.

The program begins at 10:30 a.m. with brunch and Sirbu’s presentation, followed by a panel that will include including CAA’s Rabbi Neil Blumofe and will further the dialogue in the Jewish community. The program is expected to conclude at 12:30 p.m.

Sirbu, an Austin native, was selected as one of the Most Inspirational Rabbis in America by The Forward. She founded the website RabbiCareers.com and is a regular contributor to several online publications and blogs.

A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Vassar College, Sirbu holds a master’s degree and ordination from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America.

Breakfast is $13 and can be paid online at CAA’s website or at the door. An RSVP to Cameron Nudleman is requested at cameron.nudleman@caa-austin.org or 512-735-8418.

Series sponsors receive reserved seating and complimentary breakfast. Sponsorships at the $180 minimum level for one or two people helps defray speaker travel costs. ■
