NCJW Features Austin Diaper Bank at Annual Hanukkah Party
National Council of Jewish Women Austin will hold its annual Hanukkah party Thursday, December 14, at 7:30 p.m. at a home in Northwest Hills.
Holly McDaniel, Austin Diaper Bank executive director, will attend and speak at the party. She brings to the Austin Diaper Bank more than 15 years of leadership experience and a focus on business development, nonprofit management and donor development at nonprofits in Austin and California.
Most recently, McDaniel served as Art Alliance Austin director of development. Previously, she was director of individual giving and philanthropy at KMFA, 89.5, the classical public radio station in Austin. In California, McDaniel served as director of annual fund at Polytechnic School in Pasadena, and was special events manager for the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation in Los Angeles. McDaniel earned a bachelor’s degree in art history from Occidental College in Los Angeles.
NCJW supports the Austin Diaper Bank and invites Hanukkah party guests to bring diapers to donate. The Austin Diaper Bank supports needs from newborns to the elderly. The greatest need is for baby diapers size newborn, 4, 5 and 6, as well as adult diapers in sizes XL and XXL. Most adult clients request underwear or pull-up style diapers.
The Diaper Bank is on a mission to empower families and individuals throughout Central Texas by providing a reliable and adequate source of personal hygiene products. It was established in 2013 in response to needs in Central Texas.
One in four families will experience diaper need at some point in their lives. Each month the Diaper Bank provides more than 20,000 diapers and wipes to partner agencies for families in Central Texas. Currently, the Diaper Bank is only able to cover half of the need in the area. Food stamps and assistance programs do not cover diapers and with a growing poverty rate, the number of households in diaper need are increasing. The Diaper Bank aims to serve over 5,000 families each month with clean diapers.
Alternatively, guests may go to the Austin Diaper Bank at www.austindiapers.org to make a donation, or checks can be made out, payable to the Austin Diaper Bank, at the time of the Hanukkah Party.
Delicious latkes, desserts, and beverages will be served and there will be time to visit with old and new friends. An RSVP is required by Dec. 11. Non-members are welcome. ■
