CAA Intermarriage Speaker Series Continues in January
The next event in Congregation Agudas Achim’s speaker series on Jewish intermarriage and evolving attitudes will be held Sunday, Jan. 14. Rabbis Without Borders Director Rebecca Sirbu will discuss “Mixed Blessings: The Future of the Jewish Family.”
Sirbu approaches the topic from the clergy and congregation perspective.
Her organization’s website explains its rabbis are “committed to pushing the borders of what it means to be a rabbi today.”
"Rabbi Rebecca Sirbu is a discerning, creative and soughtafter thought leader, who helps to articulate a vigorous vision of 21st century Judaism,” CAA’s Rabbi Neil Blumofe said. “Coming from somewhat different perspectives, we will speak together about the current challenges currently before Conservative Judaism.”
Sirbu, an Austin native who “The Forward” named one of the most inspirational rabbis in America, will join CAA’s Blumofe and Dana Winer, who has been at the forefront of the interfaith family discussion nationally as part of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism’s Commission on Community and Covenant.
Sirbu, founder of the website Rabbi-Careers.com, holds a master’s degree and ordination from The Jewish Theological Seminary of America.
Winer serves on the USCJ board and was program chair for the 2017 national convention. She is a CAA past president and current Sisterhood co-president.
The program will be held from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., beginning with brunch and Sirbu’s presentation, followed by the panel furthering the dialogue.
Series sponsors receive reserved seating and complimentary breakfast. Sponsorships at the $180 minimum level for one or two persons helps defray speaker travel costs.
