Jewish-Hindu Cultural Event Providing School Supplies for Local Homeless Kids

Jewish-Hindu Cultural Event Providing School Supplies for Local Homeless Kids

Culture took center stage at the Jewish Community Center for Bollywood Meets Borscht Belt, a Jewish and Hindu joint community service project to help with the education of homeless and other economically disadvantaged children in Austin, Del Valle and Manor.

Shalom Austin and Hindu Charities for America raised enough money to buy school supplies for more than a thousand children.

Bollywood Meets Borscht Belt participants were treated to henna tattoos, performances, including traditional music and dancing, a veggie/dairy Indian food dinner and Jewish dessert.

The Jewish and Hindu communities will come together once again on Sunday, August 13 at the JCC to collect backpacks filled with school supplies purchased with the funds raised. Everyone is invited to help out.
