Shalom Austin Staff and Volunteer Spotlight

Shalom Austin Staff and Volunteer Spotlight

Robert Johnson
Facilities, Shalom Austin

What is your role at Shalom Austin?
I work in facilities. I arrive at the Dell Jewish Community Campus around 3:15 in the morning, and I clock in at 4 a.m. I do the coffee, open all of the buildings and setup events or other activities if there is setup to be done. That’s how I start my day.

What brought you to Shalom Austin?
I was working and a member of Congregation Agudas Achim, Jon Minor, asked me if I wanted a job. I said yes, and he told me to meet Shannon who was the supervisor then. I spoke to her, and I was hired for the job right away. I’ve been here now over 17 years.

What do you feel has been the most rewarding part about working at Shalom Austin?
The people. Everybody is so nice and everyone loves me. That’s why I have been working here a long time.

What would you say to someone who is thinking about getting involved in Shalom Austin?
They couldn’t find a better place to be. People are so nice. It’s a really great place to work.
