National Council of Jewish Women Features Refugee Services of Texas at September Luncheon
National Council of Jewish Women will feature guest speaker Lauren Rizzo from Refugee Services of Austin at a luncheon on Tuesday, September 12. Rizzo will discuss the current state of refugees flowing into the United States and Texas, and how her organization is involved.
Refugee Services of Texas serves refugees, asylees, individuals with Special Immigrant Visas, Cuban-Haitian entrants, Central American minors, survivors of human trafficking and other vulnerable populations. In addition, the organization works to facilitate partnerships with host communities to build a welcoming environment.
Rizzo has served as Refugee Services of Texas volunteer coordinator for two years, and was a volunteer herself for five years. Her passion for travel and her love for different cultures drew her to get involved with refugees in Austin. In her former life, she studied fine furniture making and traveled in Mexico. She is excited to speak at the luncheon about what it means to be a refugee and what the refugee resettlement process looks like in Texas.
NCJW's luncheon will be held at Las Palomas Restaurant, 3201 Bee Caves Road, from 11:15 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Networking time will begin at 11:15, and the program will begin at 11:45 a.m.
The uncheon ost is $20 for NCJW members and $23 for non-members, all inclusive. Only cash will be accepted. ■
