JNF Highlights Israel Innovation at Annual Breakfast for Israel
On Thursday, November 2, 2017, Jewish National Fund (JNF) is hosting the annual Breakfast for Israel in Austin at the Shalom Austin Jewish Community Center, located at 7300 Hart Lane. This complimentary event will feature a talk on Israeli innovation by guest speaker Jonathan Medved, a social entrepreneur, philanthropist, investor, and the Founder and CEO of OurCrowd. Registration will open at 7:30 a.m. and the program will begin promptly at 8:00 a.m.
"We couldn’t think of a better person than Jon Medved to speak at Jewish National Fund’s sixth annual Breakfast for Israel connecting Israel’s thriving tech scene with Austin’s innovative community,” says breakfast co-chair Evan Gremont.
Medved has been called “one of Israel’s leading high tech venture capitalists” by The Washington Post, and by The New York Times as one of the top 10 most influential Americans who have impacted Israel. His company OurCrowd has raised over $440 million for more than 120 portfolio companies since its launch in February 2013. According to Bloomberg Businessweek: “OurCrowd is hands down the most successful equity-crowdfunding platform in the world right now.” Medved has been part of the founding teams at several successful Israeli startups and, as a venture and angel investor over the past two decades, has invested in almost 200 startup companies, helping to bring 20 of them to values in excess of $100M.
Attendees of the breakfast can also expect to learn more about JNF’s vision and how it provides a unique voice in building a prosperous and secure future for the land and people of Israel. JNF strives to bring an enhanced quality of life to all of Israel’s citizens and translate these advancements to the world beyond. JNF is “greening” the desert with millions of trees, building thousands of parks across Israel, creating new communities and cities for generations of Israelis to call home, bolstering Israel’s water supply, helping develop innovative arid agriculture techniques, ensuring that no citizen is left behind by making parks and public spaces inclusive for people with disabilities and special needs, and educating both young and old about the founding and importance of Israel and Zionism.
“I love supporting JNF because I know my money is directly going to help Israelis and develop the state of Israel,” says breakfast co-chair Adam Loewy. “JNF has been an integral part of the Zionist mission since the days of Herzl and I am proud to play a small part in its continued success.”
Proceeds from the dinner will benefit JNF’s vital work in Israel, which is varied in scope, but singular in benefit: striving to bring an enhanced quality of life to all of Israel’s residents and translate these advancements to the world beyond.
