Community Gathers for Shalom Austin 2018 Annual Meeting
2 ECP staff members celebrate with David Schaffer (center), recipient of the Staff Exemplar Award
By Wendy Goodman
Shalom Austin hosted its 2018 annual meeting October 16. The evening began with a pre-reception cocktail party celebrating the new Bernard and Audre Rapoport Center for Jewish Culture and Education, and new Shalom Austin Chief Learning and Engagement Officer Rachel Stern.
The annual meeting followed, with more than 100 community members in attendance. Dan Kraus, immediate past chair, gave opening remarks and passed the torch to new board chair, Abby Rapoport.
Tracy Solomon and Michael Rotman, co-founders of Hebrew Free Loan of Austin, were honored with the Community Service Award and David Schaffer, ECP assistant teacher, with the Staff Exemplar Award.
Rabbi David Saperstein, director emeritus of Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, senior advisor to the URJ for policy and strategy, and former U.S. ambassador at large for international religious freedom, presented powerful insights on Judaism and the Reform movement. ■
