While living in Shanghai, China for seven years and traveling throughout the country, photographer Kate Graham came to greatly admire and respect the culture and history of the Chinese people — especially Buddhist communities in Tibet and Qinghai. She was intrigued with the ancient religion and its opulent color, design, ritual and symbolism.

JGallery is featuring Graham’s photographic celebration of this culture, which, despite political opposition, poverty and relative isolation has persevered and flourished with joy and dignity. Buddhist Sacred Days will be at JGallery January 16 through March 18. An opening reception will be held January 30 from 7-8:30 p.m. ■
