Celebrate with the JCC’s Early Childhood Program at Family Fun Day

BY KATHY DAVIS

Everyone is invited to Family Fun Day (FFD), the JCC Early Childhood Program’s (ECP) largest fundraiser of the year, scheduled for Sunday, February 25 from 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. at the JCC. Started in 2014, all proceeds from FFD go directly back to the school supporting the children, their educators, and the families. Monies are raised through wristband sales and sponsorship opportunities and past proceeds have been used to purchase natural wooden classroom chairs, refurnish the ECP kitchen, support annual professional development for educators (including national and international speakers), provide Sheva materials to classrooms, replenish playground bicycles, riding toys, and balls, lobby furniture, and more. With a familiar circus/carnival theme that families have come to expect, children, parents, and grandparents enjoy the ever-popular petting zoo, “touch-a-truck,” multiple bounce houses, circus train, carnival games with prizes, and more! Crowds attend not only from the ECP but from the local community, Sunday School families, and Shalom Austin.

Business and family sponsorships range from the Ringmaster ($1,000) to the Trapeze Artist ($500), Lion Tamer ($250), and the Acrobat ($150). Each level comes with a named activity for the sponsor as well as from four to one complimentary wrist-bands. Sponsorships will also be displayed on event materials, signs, and listed in The Jewish Outlook and are tax deductible (less the cost of the wristbands). Event planner and ECP parent Lauren Patten, took the FFD to new levels in the past two years – mostly from sponsorships – earning a gross that exceeded $18,000 last year. With a goal of $15,000 in net proceeds for this year, both the current FFD chair, John McCarthy, and the FFD chair pro temp see this as a reachable goal. Online wristband sales and sponsorships can be accessed via the Shalom Austin website at www.shalomaustin.org/ffd, leaving a message for John at the ECP Front Office at (512) 735-8100, or e-mailing Katie Faust in the ECP Front Office at katie.faust@shalomaustin.org. As John has been echoing in recent lobby sales, “Simply come on out and have some fun!” The ECP serves children from six weeks through five years of age in a Sheva, Reggio-Emilia inspired environment. ■
