Hebrew Prep Students Contribute to Blanket Charity
Hebrew Preparatory School students, along with Chabad Lubavitch of Austin Directors Rabbi Yosef and Rochel Levertov, began the month of February with a special trip to CareBOX.
With the help of volunteers and donors, CareBOX provides essential supplies to cancer patients in their homes. To support this effort, HPS children made and donated blankets for CareBOX patients’ care packages.
HPS teacher Judy Alterman connected with Heather Lewis, CareBOX program coordinator, to make possible the opportunity for HPS students to tour the organization’s facility, present their gifts and learn about ways to support the local community.
Lewis explained that cancer patients are often lacking in essential nutrients and supplies. She showed the children a sample care box and items that are generally included, ranging from face masks, cleaning wipes, blankets and nutrient-rich drinks. The boxes are often delivered by volunteers to the patients’ homes.
The trip was a wonderful opportunity for the children to see that if each person gives a little it can amount to a sizable different in someone’s life. The children really enjoyed the opportunity and felt inspired to continue giving. ■
