Local Leadership in the Wake of Terror
Panel includes Andy Berke, Mayor of Chattanooga, Tennessee. On July 16, 2015, a former resident of Chattanooga returned to attack two armed service recruiting centers, killing five. Berke, a Jewish American whose family had emigrated from Lithuania to escape religious persecution, vowed to protect Chattanooga’s small Muslim community from retaliation. Berke now shares lessons learned from that tragedy with other mayors and city officials around the world, including through the Strong Cities Network.
