Texas Hillel Celebrates 20 Years of Israel Block Party at University of Texas
Texas Hillel is gearing up to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its nationally acclaimed Israel Block Party. Community members are invited to stop by the University of Texas’ East Mall between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, to grab an aroma-style iced coffee, a falafel or shawarma and get hooked on Israel.
Texas Hillel’s premier and most anticipated event of the year, Israel Block Party brings together thousands of students, faculty and community members to celebrate Israeli culture, explore connections between Texas and Israel, and promote Israel advocacy on campus.
Israel Block Party includes a large, open-air Israeli market known as a shuk, featuring traditional food, shopping, interactive educational activities and of course, live camels.
“It’s important that students who haven’t visited Israel can learn about so many aspects of Israeli life, including politics, innovation and culture,” said Rachel Sasiene, a senior at UT and Israel Block Party co-chair.
Israel Block Party offers students a chance to visit booths to learn about many aspects of Israeli life and culture including its government, politics, startups and diversity.
More than 60 student volunteers have been organizing the event for months. From content and logistics to marketing and fundraising, their vision is coming together for the biggest Israel fair, found in the heart of UT’s campus. ■
