6th Annual Bollywood Meets Borscht Belt
The Jewish and Hindu communities are again uniting to present Bollywood Meets Borscht Belt, a fundraiser to support the education of homeless and other economically disadvantaged children in the Austin, Del Valle and Manor school districts.
Hindu Charities for America will host the fundraiser Sunday, April 29, at 4 p.m., at the Jewish Community Center located on the Dell Jewish Community Campus, 7300 Hart Lane in Austin.
Funds raised at the event purchase school supplies for more than 1,000 children in the Austin area. This represents about 20 percent of the local homeless children population.
This year’s theme is “World Dance Showdown.” Beginning at 4 p.m., participants will have the opportunity to mingle and socialize. The entertainment program will start at 5 p.m., followed by a veggie/dairy Indian and Jewish cross-cultural dinner with a Jewish dessert.
Featured speakers will include Royce Avery, superintendent of Manor Independent School District.
Tickets are $30 for general admission and $10 for children. Table and event sponsorships are available.
The Jewish and Hindu communities will come together again Sunday, August 12, at 12:30 p.m., at the Jewish Community Center, to collate backpacks filled with school supplies purchased with the funds raised at Bollywood Meets Borscht Belt. Volunteers will deliver the supplies on August 25. ■
