Carly Cera Named CBI Director of Education and Engagement
Rabbi Rebecca Epstein, Congregation Beth Israel’s director of education, has accepted an offer to serve as full-time rabbi educator for Congregation Beth Elohim in Brooklyn, New York.
In an email to congregants, Ben Jansen, Congregation Beth Israel president, said, “Over the past several years we have had the good fortune to work with Rabbi Epstein in transforming our religious school program into the thriving and diverse learning environment it is today. She has brought the utmost in compassion, professionalism and dedication to her time with us and leaves CBI a better place because of it.”
Epstein will remain at Congregation Beth Israel through the 2017-2018 school year and will begin her new position in New York in July.
Carly Cera was named Congregation Beth Israel’s next director of education and engagement.
Cera grew up at CBI, and has been a member of the congregation’s professional staff since 2011 as youth advisor and director of community engagement. She teaches in CBI’s religious and Hebrew/midrasha school and works with Epstein to add engagement pieces to the school’s curriculum. She has also been a member of the professional staff at Greene Family Camp for 10 summers.
Cera holds a Bachelor of Science in applied learning and development with a minor in Jewish studies from the University of Texas at Austin, as well as a Master of Arts in teaching English to speakers of other languages from Tel Aviv University. She has eight years of experience teaching in public schools in Austin and Tel Aviv.
Cera begins her new position July 1. ■
