The Austin Jewish community gathered on April 17 at Congregation Agudas Achim to commemorate the military and war veterans who have lost their lives in active duty for Yom HaZikaron, Israel’s Memorial Day. Hosted by Shalom Austin, the evening began with a procession of flags by Austin Post 757 Jewish War Veterans. The program continued with a moment of silence as the memorial siren played, followed by a memorial prayer service, songs by CAA choir led by Steven Long, song and poem by Mika Freund and Rabbi Rebecca Reice, Dr. Harvey Raben and Rabbi Dan Millner, personal reflections by Ari Rubinfeld and Roy Alony and Ofer Alony, violin solo by Binyamin Zilber and candle lighting. Other community leaders and members who participated were Rabbi Daniel Septimus, Rabbi Gail Swedroe, Sassi Aviv, David Hazan, Ester Smith, Rabbi Rebecca Epstein, Chazzan Yitshak Ben-Moshe and Rabbi Alan Freedman. Shelly Prant, Nathalie Miller and Monica Yaniv coordinated the event.
