New Alpaca Market Farm Fresh Food Comes to the J
By Wendy Corn
Next time you’re at the J, be sure to experience this exciting new food upgrade near the Welcome Desk—the Alpaca Market. It is a state of the art, modern vending machine that features local, organic, made-from-scratch vegan, vegetarian, paleo salads, snacks and alternative desserts. The machine is re-stocked every morning. The Shalom Austin Jewish Community Center hosts the fourth machine installed from this Austin-based company, after the Capital Factory shared work space downtown (2 machines) and the Alpaca Market Kitchen HQ on the east side.
"As the Shalom Austin JCC continues to evolve, we want to keep health and wellness of our entire community on the forefront. Recently we were able to connect with the great folks at Alpaca Market regarding a revolutionary vending machine that brings healthy and fresh kosher options to the fingertips to communities for breakfast, lunch and dinner,” said Shalom Austin Chief Operating Officer Corey Schwartz. “We are very lucky to strike a wonderful partnership with Alpaca Market to bring this to our community. As we move forward, the JCC will continue to be on the cutting-edge of health and wellness, especially as we expand our facilities in the near future."
The Alpaca Market is a paradigm shift in both vending machine alternatives and the perception of fast food—it doesn’t have to be unhealthy. Food not sold gets donated to Keep Austin Fed. ■
