Mali Estrada: Registration and Accounting Coordinator

What is your role and what do you do at Shalom Austin?
I am an accounting coordinator for Shalom Austin. I am part of a wonderful team that processes the payments for membership dues, summer camp, ECP, Kids Connection and donations.

What is your background and what brought you to Shalom Austin?
I was born in Ramat Gan, Israel. When I was 2 years old I moved to Austin with my mom and haven't left since. I love Austin and I love what Shalom Austin has done to help the surrounding communities.

What do you feel has been your most rewarding experience so far?
It is a great feeling to know that I work for a company that supports the lives of those in need.

What is your favorite part about working here?
The people. Everyone here is so personable, understanding and wonderful to work with.

Describe any exciting programs or projects in the works?
We are implementing a new program for the Jewish Community Center called Daxko. It will streamline the membership experience.

What would you say to someone who is thinking about getting involved with Shalom Austin?
Do it. It is a great organization with great staff to be involved with.

Julie Waltzer: Shalom Austin Volunteer

What is your role at Shalom Austin?
I am the Shalom Austin Women's Philanthropy chair and also serve as a Shalom Austin board member.

What made you decide to become a Shalom Austin volunteer?
Raising a Jewish family in Austin has really motivated me to show my kids the importance of our wonderful Jewish community. I want them to see that we have a responsibility to take care of it and help it thrive and grow.

Why is volunteering important to you?
Volunteering with Shalom Austin allows me to make an impact on our community now and in the future. I want our children to have an understanding of what it means to live a meaningful Jewish life.

What is your background?
I was born and raised in El Paso and am a proud Longhorn. I moved to the Bay Area where I met my husband and worked as a corporate event planner. We moved back to Austin with our two children seven years ago and are loving being back in Texas.

What would you say to someone who is thinking about getting involved with Shalom Austin?
Give it a try. There are so many different ways to get involved and I promise you will love it!
