Summer Fun Sizzles at Shalom Austin Sunday Funday, JCamps
By Kristina Boshernitzan and Robyn Burch
Families of all ages gathered to celebrate the start of summer at Sunday Funday on June 3 at the Shalom Austin Jewish Community Center pool. The celebration included food while Deer Fellow, an acoustic rock duo, filled the air with music. Even though the forecast predicted a temperatures that feel like a high of 105, the pool, inflatable water slide and tents kept everyone cool enough to have fun.
Join the community at the next Sunday Funday, July 15. With an Israeli theme, the event will feature Israeli music, JoeBob's Kosher BBQ, matkot games and Jim Jim's Water Ice.
JCamps Session A got off to a wonderful start in June. Splash Day on Friday was amazing, filled with water slides, swimming at the pool, popcorn and popsicles. Campers also celebrated Shabbat, led by song leader Max Harberg and the JCamps team. It was really energetic and a fantastic way to end the first week of JCamps.
During the second week of Session A, campers had a Neon Dress-Up Day and Glow Party. So many campers wore neon and enjoyed a dance party with fun neon lights all around. The Performing Arts Camp original performance Lights! Camera! Rolling!, created by campers under the guidance of spectacular PAC directors Jenny and Rene, was creative and well-acted. Camp Shalom Kochavim had an overnight at the JCC filled with dinner, night swimming and capture the flag. Camp Shalom Giborim enjoyed a field trip to San Antonio where they went to Six Flags for some water rides and roller coasters and spent the night at the Barshop Jewish Community Center of San Antonio. The JCamps Team looks forward to this summer's remaining sessions. ■
