Shalom Austin Staff Spotlight
Karin Lester: Development Manager - Outreach & Engagement
What is your role and what do you do at Shalom Austin?
I wear a couple of different hats here at Shalom Austin. As development manager, outreach and engagement, I develop young family programs and work with our partnership in Israel and our Israeli Community.
What is your background and what brought you to Shalom Austin?
My background is in early childhood education. I started off at the ECP in 2008 as a pre-k teacher. After eight years, I moved to the role where I am now.
What do you feel has been your most rewarding experience so far?
One of my favorite things is connecting new families that just moved to Austin and watching them build their Jewish village.
What is your favorite part about working here?
Not only do I love coming to the campus, the people I work with are great friends and family.
Describe any exciting programs or projects in the works?
I am excited to kick off Shalom Village with JFS in November. Shalom Village will be for first time parents with children ages 0-12 months old. It will be a new way to connect with families that are in the same boat. When raising a child, you have so many questions as you go.
What would you say to someone who is thinking about getting involved with Shalom Austin?
Getting involved with Shalom Austin was one of the best decisions I made when I moved to Austin. It’s where I found my community and Jewish village.
