ADL Gears Up for Lobby Day

By Yael Brown

Every legislative session, ADL Austin prepares for a bi-annual Lobby Day. This year’s Lobby Day is scheduled for Feb. 11 at the State Capitol.

ADL leaders and staff from Austin, Dallas and Houston will gather at the Texas Capitol to take ADL’s message to Texas legislators. The day begins with a briefing from ADL’s partner organizations, Equality Texas, Texas Freedom Network, Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, and other organizations that are part of the TRUST coalition, who will cover issues the legislature will address this year.

ADL Austin Associate Director Lisa Humphrey said, “During the 2019 legislative session, ADL will be focused on immigration reform, fighting LGBT discrimination and the separation of church and state.”

Following the presentation will be an informative session with Harvey Kronberg, Quorum Report editor.

In the afternoon, the group will carry the ADL message of respect for all to legislators.

“Taking ADL’s message to our legislators is a democratic ideal that we value and take seriously. Through our partnerships and coalitions we are able to amplify our voice and speak out against discrimination of all kinds,” Humphrey explained. ■
