Chabad is establishing a new center in Round Rock, Texas, this March, with the upcoming move to the city of Chabad representatives Rabbi Mendel and Mussi Marasow, and their two daughters.
Just 20 minutes north of Austin, Round Rock values community and prides itself on being inclusive. The Marasows plan on contributing to the city's proud Jewish presence by creating a space for all Jews, of all affiliations, to feel welcome.
Mussi Marasow (nee Levertov) grew up in Austin and is excited to return to the area.
“It’s coming home,” said the Brooklyn resident. “There is no place like Texas. I am looking forward to reconnecting with old friends and forming new connections.”
“People ask if we’re really just moving for the weather,” said the Montreal-native Rabbi Marasow.
He has spent many summers and Jewish holidays participating in the Roving Rabbis program, traveling all over the world, hosting holiday events and lending a hand to local rabbis.
“Engaging with Jews in all different cities and countries was quite the adventure. But I am looking forward to settling down and making a difference in a place I can call home,” he said.
