Texas Jewish Historical Society Holds 40th Annual Gathering

The Texas Jewish Historical Society will hold its 40th annual gathering April 5-7 in Houston. Headquarters will be at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 8686 Kirby Drive, near Reliant Park. Registration will begin at 3:30 p.m. April 5 in the Crowne Plaza Hotel lobby.

An executive board meeting will be held at 4 p.m. April 5, followed by a Shabbat service at Congregation Beth Israel, 5600 North Braeswood Blvd. A buffet dinner will follow the service.

Saturday, April 6, members will go to the Houston Holocaust Museum, 9220 Kirby Drive, for tours and survivor stories. Lunch will be at the museum. That afternoon Susan Septimus will speak on l’dor v’dor, “from generation to generation.” A Havdalah service and awards dinner will take place at 6:45 p.m. Saturday in the hotel’s San Jacinto Room.

Sunday at 9 a.m. in the San Jacinto Room, Joshua Furman, director of the Houston Jewish History Archives at Rice University, will address the group. The concluding event will be the annual gathering at 9:45 a.m. in the San Jacinto Room. New officers for 2019 and 2020 will be installed at that meeting. ■
