Texas Jewish Historical Society Holds Summer Meeting in July

The Texas Jewish Historical Society summer board meeting will take place July 13 and 14.

Headquarters will be at the Hampton Inn, 2700 South Loop 256, Palestine, Texas. Phone 903 723-0016 for reservations, using group code TJH for rate of $97 plus tax, breakfast included.

Saturday afternoon, former Palestine resident May Sebel will tell about her father’s involvement in building the historic Redlands Hotel in 1915. Her father also had a lifelong passion for baseball. The Saturday evening Havdalah and dinner in the Red Fire Grill of the Redlands features Sharon Years-Davis speaking on the history associated with Jewish people who settled Palestine.

Two optional driving tours will be offered, the Beth Israel Cemetery and Jewish businesses and residences in the historic district.

The executive board meeting will be held 4 p.m. Saturday in the Hampton Inn meeting room. The Sunday board meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. in the Hampton’s meeting room. All registered guests are welcome to attend. ■
