This past spring, Shalom Austin hosted its first Yesod cohort, launched under the Bernard and Audre Rapoport Center for Jewish Culture and Education and facilitated by Rachel Stern and Alachua Nazarenko. The group consisted of 13 Jewish community leaders from a variety of organizations, including executive board members of Shalom Austin, a variety of synagogues, Hillel and more.
A collaboration between The Mandel Center for Leadership Excellence at the Jewish Federations of North America and the Florence Melton School of Adult Learning, Yesod provided a thought provoking and practical curriculum, giving participants an opportunity to delve into personal and communal leadership through a Jewish lens.
Members of the first cohort were Laura Corman, Brian Deitch, Jennifer Failla Hoffman, Julie Franklin, Samantha Friedman, Wendy Goodman, Amy Hyman, Ben Kogut, Laraine Lasdon, Phil Loewy, Carly Sansom, Ian Spechler and Stuart Wallock.
Yesod is designed for individuals with leadership experience who are currently serving in Jewish communal leadership roles and who have the capacity and desire to serve in senior leadership roles. ■
